It Just Got Real!

After having our house listed last year for six months and not receiving an offer we decided to pull it off the market for the holiday season. It was a welcome break from the chaos that comes with afternoon showings and open houses. We enjoyed our sweet little home; serving up a lovely Thanksgiving dinner within her kitchen, wrapping and unwrapping presents under the Christmas tree, and ringing in the New Year cozy in our beds. As much as I had thought I was ready to sell and move, it was such a blessing to of had one more holiday season within the walls of our home.

Spring. The word spring brings to mind sunshine, temps just warm enough for a light jacket, fresh grass poking up form the dormant ground, birds singing excitedly in the early morning and tiny flower buds reaching towards the sky. Spring in Alaska is this....

So of course this is the perfect time to re-list our house for sale! Well, wouldn't you know that after months of painstakingly cleaning, stressing, sweating, praying and not receiving an offer we would re-list our house and have an offer THAT DAY! That's right. The house wasn't even on the market for 24 hours and we had our first offer. The last few weeks have been spent packing, finishing necessary repairs, scheduling the home inspection and appraisal, probably bothering our saint of a realtor too much, and nervously chattering away with the Mr. about our new adventure.

On top of all of this, we're not the only ones on this journey. My wonderful parents are also moving right along with us! This weekend was spent loading a 40 foot shipping container with 20 years worth of household items. To say it was a lot of work would be an understatement. But God has blessed us with some incredible people in our lives. At a mostly short notice, four dear friends spent most of their Friday helping us. Its true that many hands make light work. Although this was still A LOT of work. Thank you again Dustin, Andrew, Ben and Ryan. We couldn't of done it without you!

In two weeks time we get to repeat this process with our own 40 foot shipping container and our need-to-take items. My goal between now and then is to be as prepared as humanly possible while still knowing full well I'll probably be a stressed out mess come loading day.

From here on out, I intend to tailor this blog towards our journey of moving from Alaska to Eastern Washington. Once there I'll continue with our adventures in our new home. I'm not sure what that will look like. I'm leaving the only real home we've ever known. We're creating a life neither of us has a 100% clear picture of yet. There are a lot of unknowns for us, and a lot of questions we can't answer yet. But I do know that through this whole crazy journey of thinking about moving, talking about moving (sorry to all those who suffered through years of my dribble) and finally selling our house, God has had it all worked out for us. He already know's the path ahead and we're just along for the ride!
